Zlata Onufrieva is an award-winning London-based documentary filmmaker with a particular interest in socially conscious stories.
Originally from a small city in Siberia, she worked as a journalist in Moscow until 2016, when she moved to Prague to study filmmaking at FAMU.
Zlata began her filmmaking career at the BBC World Service, where she promotes neurodiversity, inclusion, and women's rights through engaging storytelling and her unique ability to bring a light touch to some of the heaviest topics.
Her first feature documentary “Escaping My Family” was broadcasted on the BBC News channel and was seen more than 700k times on YouTube, it was also shortlisted in the ‘Reaching Underserved Audiences’ category in the BBC News Awards 2024 and has won the Best Creative Feature Documentary at the Women's Voices Now 2024.
